 Dr. Shinichi Suzuki
Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, (1898-1998), Japanese violinist and teacher studied how children learn for over fifty years. Encouraged by their ability to assimilate the "mother tongue", he saw great opportunity to enrich children's lives through music. His primary goal was not only to teach young people to play musical instruments, rather he recognized the unique contribution music could make in the total learning process. His goals also included development on the whole child, unfolding the natural potential to learn and becoming a good and happy person.
The Purpose of Suzuki Training
Not to produce great artists, but to help every child find the joy that comes through music making.
To promote the environment of total support through their growth in the Suzuki Method.
To develop confidence and self-esteem, determination to try difficult things, self discipline and the ability to listen and concentrate as well they acquire a lasting enjoyment of music and the sensitivity and skill necessary for making music.
How the Suzuki method is different
It is the Mother-tongue approach to learning an instrument. In the same way that a child learns to speak his own language; through listening; imitating the speech; recognizing the symbols and finally reading the written language.
Children learn music in the same sequence.
A teaching pedagogy that can be applied not only to learning an instrument but also can be applied to school work as well
Assisting parents in creating a learning environment for their children
Helps parent and child master difficult learning situations by working in small achievable steps and using
each step as building blocks to achieve success.
It facilitates the parents to help develop their child's concentration
