Journeys in Music is the only Music Studio in Regina to offer the Suzuki Early Childhood Education Program. Suzuki Early Childhood Education is based on the premise that learning begins before birth. To most people this would seem unbelievable, but in fact the fetus is able to hear 14 weeks after conception. When babies are born they recognize and respond to their mother’s voice which provides a sense of security for them, consequently calming and soothing them. By using this principle of repetition of sounds to create recognition and response, the Suzuki program provides a second source of a calming and soothing influence after the baby is born. Why Suzuki Early Childhood Education?

• The fetus at fourteen weeks is able to hear and distinguish sounds. It is at this time, the Suzuki Early Childhood Education Program offers parents-to-be an opportunity to learn about creating a musical and a learning environment for their baby.
• It establishes a natural pattern of response to repeated sounds (music) and begins a pattern of learning through repetition.
• A bond is created between parent and child from this early stage that continues throughout the child’s life.
• While adults become bored with repetition, repetition is the natural way children learn, it provides comfort / enjoyment and creates a sense of success for the child.

 

This Program offers a series of three classes:

• The Prenatal Music Stimulation Class
• Baby / Toddler Music Class
• Pre- School  Class

 

Children are like seeds that we plant in our gardens. In order to have the plant we desire, we must nurture the plant, give it the best environment we can: water it; give it sunlight; keep it from harsh weather; remove weeds that may want to squelch its growth. Most importantly we must allow the plant (child)  to grow and develop at its own rate, with our encouragement and love and providing the best environment we can at all times.”
